Bright autumn colors frame the combined meat house and root cellar at the Carter Farmstead at Humpback Rocks on the Blue Ridge Parkway (milepost 5.8). In the 1950s, these authentic structures were moved from their original location to the former Carter Farm at Humpback Rocks. They recreated an 1890s farmstead with the relocation of a log cabin, chicken house, barn, springhouse, and this meat house and root cellar.
