Two classics of railroad power in juxtaposition to one another at the North Carolina Museum of Transporation in Spencer, North Carolina. Both engines were built in 1950 and illustrate the change in technology from steam to diesel that occurred in that period. The 611 is a class J 4-8-4 locomotive that was built by Norfolk and Western in the Roanoke shops. The 6133 is a FP7 diesel locomotive that was used by the Southern Railroad until 1980 before being retired and donated to the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
